Feed the Fire storm survival guide: Prepare before rain

Use the countdown to grow your fire, prepare your next attempt with shield and upgrade purchases, and keep feeding fuel when the rain starts.

Use the countdown above your fire to drag available fuel into the flames, then keep feeding when the rain starts. Prepare your attempts with a shield and upgrades that give you more time to grow. A bigger fire is better equipped to survive, and protection helps it withstand the rain.

What to do while the countdown runs

Drag logs into the campfire as they become available. Add batteries, explosives and fireworks once you have unlocked them. Burning fuel grows the fire and earns money; a larger fire also earns more, helping fund later upgrades.

Keep feeding throughout the preparation window. When the timer ends, the cloud moves over the fire and “SURVIVE THE RAIN — KEEP THE FIRE FED” announces the rain phase. That banner is your cue to continue adding fuel through the storm.

Prepare your upgrades before the next attempt

If the fire goes out, select UPGRADE on the DROWNED OUT results screen to open the “FEED YOUR FIRE — every buy reveals more” panel. Spend your earnings there before selecting START THE FIRE for another attempt.

Choose upgrades according to what you need to improve:

  • Shield protection: Buy the shield unlock to protect the fire during rain. In early rounds, losing the shield can be followed by the fire going out immediately, so protection matters even while you are actively feeding.
  • More time before rain: This upgrade extends the opportunity to feed and grow the fire before the cloud arrives.
  • Fire value and earnings: Upgrades such as Organic Fire Value improve the value of the fuel you burn, helping you afford further upgrades.
  • New fuels and spawners: Purchases reveal more of the upgrade tree. New fuels expand what you can burn, while spawners feed the fire automatically.

These upgrades address different parts of preparation: protection against rain, time to build the fire, and stronger growth across attempts. Use the Feed the Fire upgrade tree guide for the broader upgrade system.

Keep feeding until the rain passes

You can still drag fuel into the fire during rain. Continue adding it while the shield absorbs the rain; the shield does not replace the need to grow your fire.

Your immediate success signal is that the rain passes and the fire is still burning. Once it does, use the next countdown to build it further. Later storms become stronger, so surviving the first Drizzle does not mean the same preparation will carry you through the next rain.

If you are extinguished, return to UPGRADE, strengthen your preparation and start another round. Build on both sides of survival: a larger fire going into the storm and protection to help it endure.
